On 9 Aug 2024, the Yumi Katsura Memorial Fashion Show, “Yumi – celebration of life” was successfully held at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. 

Following Yumi’s wishes, the event replaced a traditional funeral with a celebration of her life and work. She had requested Mr. Shogo Kariyazaki, the renowned Japanese flower artist, to design the floral arrangements for the venue and Mr. Masafumi Akikawa, a distinguished Japanese tenor singer, to perform “Senza no Kaze ni Natte” (“Becoming a Thousand Winds”)in the show.

The show’s theme, which embodied all Yumi cherished, was “Yumi – Celebration of Life -.”

On stage, the creative team that had been diligently trained under Yumi’s mentorship meticulously curated a selection of 100 dresses and traditional Japanese kimonos. These pieces, crafted with exceptional attention to detail over her 59-year career, were showcased as a tribute to her enduring legacy.

Prominent models showcased these exquisite pieces, including Ms. Ai Tominaga, who had previously graced the stage in Yumi Katsura’s creations. The event drew a large audience of Yumi Katsura’s admirers nationwide.

The show comprised three performances, including a press preview, all met with enthusiastic applause and appreciation. The event successfully concluded amidst a warm and respectful atmosphere.
